Man says he told his pregnant sister-in-law the truth about her cheating husband — and the fallout ended his own marriage too

A 27-year-old man on Reddit said he had always been close to his sister-in-law, who was 30 and pregnant at the time, and had a decent relationship with her husband as well. Then he found out the husband was cheating. His wife, who was the pregnant woman’s younger sister, already knew and begged him not to say anything because she did not want to “stress” her sister during the pregnancy. He could not live with that, so he told the pregnant sister-in-law anyway.

According to the BORU post, the cheating husband immediately tried to do damage control. The pregnant sister-in-law confronted him, and instead of coming clean fully, he tried to minimize what had happened and shift blame. The man who exposed him wrote that his own wife was furious he had gone against her wishes, and what started as one decision about whether to tell the truth quickly turned into a crisis in his own marriage.

The wife did not see him as someone who had protected her sister. She saw him as someone who had betrayed her. In the updates, he said she kept framing his choice as disloyal and disrespectful because he went behind her back. He, on the other hand, felt like she had already betrayed both him and her sister by helping hide the affair in the first place. That split in perspective became the real center of the conflict.

As the situation unraveled, the pregnant sister-in-law’s marriage also fell apart. The BORU thread shows that the cheating husband’s lies and excuses did not save him. The affair itself had already done the damage, and once the truth was out, the family could not keep pretending it was better to protect the marriage than protect the person being cheated on.

At the same time, the man’s own marriage was collapsing. In the later updates, he made clear that what he learned about his wife mattered just as much as the original cheating did. She had known, stayed quiet, and then got angry at him for exposing it. By that point, he no longer saw the problem as one bad judgment call. He saw it as proof that their values were completely different.

The BORU post also captures how divided readers were. Some people thought he should have respected his wife’s decision because it was her family. Others thought the truth mattered more, especially because the sister-in-law was pregnant and deserved to know exactly what kind of man she was tied to. But by the end of the update trail, the practical outcome was clear: he told the truth, the cheating husband got exposed, and his own marriage did not survive the consequences.

What began as one man refusing to stay quiet about an affair turned into two marriages blowing up at once. In the end, he did not just lose a wife over it. He also found out that the person he married was willing to protect a liar if it kept the family drama contained.
