My Neighbor Started Tossing Dog Waste Into My Trash Can After Every Walk

I didn’t think much of it the first time. My trash can was out, the lid was up, and later I noticed somebody had dropped a little bag of dog waste inside. Gross, sure, but easy enough to brush off once. Then it happened again. And again. After a while, I realized it wasn’t random at all. My neighbor had apparently gotten used to stopping by my can during walks and tossing the dog bag in like it was part of the route.

That’s when it started to really bother me. It wasn’t that somebody had made one quick bad call. It was the fact that it had turned into a routine. My neighbor would walk by, drop the bag in, and keep going, like there was nothing odd about using somebody else’s trash can over and over for dog waste. The more it happened, the more irritated I got, because now it wasn’t a surprise. It was just expected.

And the worst part was that I was the one stuck with it every time. If trash pickup was still a few days away, that smell was sitting right there in my bin, baking outside until the truck came. If the bag landed wrong or split, that made it even worse. What probably pushed it from mildly annoying into a real issue was the feeling that my neighbor had clearly decided this was fine without ever saying a word to me about it.

My neighbor turned my trash can into the regular drop spot for dog waste during walks, and once I realized it was happening on purpose, it got a lot harder to laugh off. Would you say something the first time you saw it happen, or would it take a pattern before you finally had enough?
